the devils hand originates from the indo pacific and ranges in colors from brown, tan, grey, green, pink, and yellow.
the devils hand has a large cap with fingers (which has pollyps that some times retract) extending upwards off of it to give the appearance of a hand reaching up. they come in a variety of colors and teh base grows larger encrusting the rock it is sitting on.
the devils hand reproduces by budding and of course by fragging.
it is a peaceful coral but still needs room between it and other corals. some species are poisonous to hard corals.
the devils hand is a hardy coral and is very durable and will do well in most water conditions, the growth is moderate to rapid for these soft corals.
it feed mainly off of light to feed it's aooxanthelle but also absorbs disolved nutrients from the water column and will also benefit from feeding of foods for filter feeders such as phytoplex or live phyto, zooplex, marine snow, and invertabrate smorgasboard.
this coral requires moderate to strong lighting meaning power compacts to metal halides
this coral requires moderate to strong flow for filter feeding and it has a mucous coating which is what the coral uses to clean itself in which it needs moderate to strong flow to help blow away this mucous coating
if supplements are needed the supplements to use are iodine, strontium and trace elements.
now for a fun bit of info, fragging of this coral is easy, just cutt off one of the fingers and mount it to a peice of rubble or a frag disk and let it heal up.
