there are some people out there who use diy live rock although i mayself have not, there are also places that sell it. i am just going to post a name and a link do some research on your own before attempting it and pay close attention to curing time, what materials you need, and remember to add it a little at a time.
ok with that said do your research on aragocrete, it is basically concrete mixed with some aragonite in with it and molded into the shape of rocks although i am sure you could also make a 3d background out of it also.
